Interviews and Speeches

Interviews are considered “personal communication,” which is unrecoverable data, so you do not cite it on the references page. However, if an interview, speech, letter, etc., is accessed from an archival source, then the archival source must be cited on the references page.

Note: Quoting or paraphrasing a “personal communication” in a paper must be cited in the text of the paper. For more details on how to cite a personal communication in a paper, visit the In-Text Citation Page.

Examples of personal communications

Personal interviews, speeches heard live, emails, private letters, nonarchived discussion groups, and other nonarchived data.
